Find a nonpartisan voters’ guide and read it. Smart Voter, a project of the League of Women Voters of California, is a good place to start.
Vote for talent, not just party affiliation. The political parties play an important role in our government, but today we need men and women who have the ability to analyze an issue, the courage to take a stand with or against their party, and the skill to communicate their reasoning without bile. We need elected officials with the ability to take the long view and voice the unpopular opinion. We need people who can pull disparate groups together to back a cause.
Be grateful that, no matter how angry we might be at the results of the election, power changes hands in this country without bloodshed.
Remember that tomorrow we exercise, as a corporate body, a right not easily won and not easily defended. Go vote!
